Fresh from The City of Pines

My favorite fruit ~ strawberries.
It is only in Baguio City that there’s a year round strawberry harvest in the Philippines. I am very much far from Baguio and even though there are strawberries available at groceries sometimes, nothing compares to a freshly picked ones. Good thing a friend of mine went to Baguio last week and brought me strawberries as present. It is the start of wet season and the weather did not cooperate well plus typhoon Cosme is on it’s way to mountain province. They were lucky to harvest the remaining good strawberries before rainy season. The peak season of strawberries with best quality and highest quantity supply at low prices starts on dry season. Whenever I go to Baguio, going to Strawberry Farm is always a part of my itinerary. There you can buy freshly picked strawberries or you can go to strawberry field yourself and pick the ones you wanted to buy. Picking them off the farm is a great and fun experience. If you don’t want fresh strawberries, strawberry jams and wines are available also.
Baguio’s strawberries are among the finest and most delicious on the globe.
“Antioxidant” ~ What I Want Most About Strawberries
Many didn’t know that aside from the delicious taste of strawberries, it is also loaded with antioxidants which may help us fight free radicals. Free radicals are natural enemies of antioxidant, counteracting the damaging of tissues and in effect, treating aging or causing its retardation.
One cup of strawberries constitutes approximately 45 calories (188 kJ) and is also an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids. It also has Thiamin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Vitamin B-6, Folate, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin A, Vitamin E. It also contains Amino acids like Glutamic acid, Phenylalanine, Methionine, Tryptophan, Lysine, Glycine and many more. Essential minerals, protein and fiber are present also.
These antioxidant are believed to play an important role in preventing the development of such chronic illnesses as heart disease, stroke, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts.
It is my pleasure to eat strawberries all my life
Start including strawberries on your daily diet so that diseases and other illness caused by harmful free radicals are avoided.

Here it is the best to buy strawberries on markets if it is their season. You can buy them even in winter, but they are horrible, imported from the other side of the world… But their season is starting and all those juicy and sweet strawberries are just waiting to be eat:-)
And I do not care about the antioxidants while they are sweet and
