Health is Wealth
Ever wonder why people who live long lives are most often blessed with good health?
That is because people with poor health specially those who with diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other chronic conditions end up spending large amount of money every year on health care cost.
People who practice good self-care are often able to prevent these challenging and expensive diseases, which often destroy savings and investments of those who suffer from them. Another is that, healthy people are also often more productive at work, which makes promotions and larger salaries easy.
You will probably says that not all diseases can be prevented, and accidents do happen from time to time that can lead to disability and financial hardships. But we know, that is not an excuse to take our selves for granted and just leave it to fate.
These are some tips on preserving our health and wealth:
-
Work with your doctor. To reduce your risk for chronic diseases that run in your family. For example, if your parents had diabetes, you can reduce your risk by exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a low-fat diet, and not smoking.
-
Make sure you have screenings. For cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and other conditions that are easier and less expensive to treat when diagnosed early.
-
Get all recommended vaccines. Getting a tetanus shot every 10 years, a flu shot once a year, and any other vaccines your doctor recommends (such as for hepatitis A and B) can reduce your risk for specific illnesses.
-
Don’t smoke. Not smoking directly reduce your risk for several cancers, heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.
