Health is Wealth

November 11, 2008 By: micgui Category: Health

Ever wonder why people who live long lives are most often blessed with good health?

That is because people with poor health specially those who with diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other chronic conditions end up spending large amount of money every year on health care cost.

People who practice good self-care are often able to prevent these challenging and expensive diseases, which often destroy savings and investments of those who suffer from them. Another is that, healthy people are also often more productive at work, which makes promotions and larger salaries easy.

You will probably says that not all diseases can be prevented, and accidents do happen from time to time that can lead to disability and financial hardships. But we know, that is not an excuse to take our selves for granted and just leave it to fate.

These are some tips on preserving our health and wealth:

  1. Work with your doctor. To reduce your risk for chronic diseases that run in your family. For example, if your parents had diabetes, you can reduce your risk by exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a low-fat diet, and not smoking.

  2. Make sure you have screenings. For cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and other conditions that are easier and less expensive to treat when diagnosed early.

  3. Get all recommended vaccines. Getting a tetanus shot every 10 years, a flu shot once a year, and any other vaccines your doctor recommends (such as for hepatitis A and B) can reduce your risk for specific illnesses.

  4. Don’t smoke. Not smoking directly reduce your risk for several cancers, heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure.

  5. Take steps to prevent heart disease and diabetes. By maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and eating a healthy low fat diet

Investing in your health by making healthy lifestyle choices can definitely improve your well being.

Changing For Health

September 30, 2008 By: micgui Category: Health

Do you know that what we do to our selves right now have an effect to our health on the future? Yes it is true. Weather we accept it or deny it. Actually, a lot of people just don’t care. Like they don’t care weather how many boxes of cigarette they take for a day. They will only starting to care when they develop a lung cancer, already in their death bed and dying.

A Health Consious

Maybe you are wondering why I speak this why. Actually I was not born a health conscious. Like you, I am just a normal person doing whatever it that I want. When I was young, all I wanted to do is to have fun until one incident happened and that incident opened my eyes about the importance of health.

Eye Opener

My mom was diagnose for cancer when I was about 12 years old. To be exact, cancer at the throat. Maybe you are thinking that she has a lot of bad habits herself. Well, I tell you guys, she no bad habits. She doesn’t drink alcohol or even smoke. We were all wondering how all this happened. But its true, the cancer cells are there. She recovered from the illness but a lot of things can never be taken back.

Preparing For The Change

So there you are, probably wondering where to start. Some may claim that being healthy requires real hard work and self discipline. Yes, it’s all true no doubt about that but think of all the benefits. The fruit of all your hard work is all for you and only YOU. Here are some tips that I wanted share to you to make the change easier:

  1. Educate yourself. This is one of the step that really helped me when I was starting. Like if you wanna know something about a particular disease, explore, research about that disease. The more you know about it the more confident you will become to change.
  2. Give yourself time to adjust. You don’t have to rush yourself or force yourself to change overnight. Everything needs time. Consider your goals and plan about it.
  3. Smaller goals are easier to achieve than large goals. This trick always applies to vegetables. For instance your goal is to take about 8 servings of vegetables everyday. To make the job a little more easier, or if your are sick of eating one type of vegetables every time, why don’t you try to have a salad instead.
  4. Think positive and trust yourself. A lot of trials are always on your way when you are starting to change. Don’t stop believing on your self. Always look at the bright side of your goal. Positive thinking is healthy too specially when you are having a hard time.
  5. Share the idea to family and friends. If you discovered something, why don’t you share them to your family and friends. Changing will be a lot easier if there are someone to support you and you can help them as well.
  6. Joining a support group. This maybe not be necessary but it can help too. Other people who encountered similar challenges may know what’s like to walk on your shoes. Group members can give a lot of advice and resources.

April 29, 2008 By: micgui Category: Movies

What will you do if you are in his position?

I was stunned by this movie that I’ve seen this weekend. The title of the film is Awake with Hayden Christensen (Star Wars, Jumper) and Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four, SinCity). The story is about Clay Beresford (Hayden Christensen) which is going to undergo a heart transplant. Before the operation he is given an anesthesia by a unknown anesthesiologist claiming to the team that he has replaced the original one. During operation, Clay finds himself totally conscious or still awake but his whole body is paralyzed. He feels everything that the doctors does to him and in order to escape the pain he forced his soul to be separated from his body and there he discovers a murder plot against him and later found out of the involvement of his wife Sam (Jessica Alba) in here.
